Boone and I wait at the Atlanta Airport |
Ok...I know I'm a procrastinator but I'm over that. I haven't really had the chance to take pictures around campus or in town yet but it's slowly a work in progress and some will be done tomorrow. Right now I have a few thoughts to post up as well as some pictures, so read the other postings for today too.
Above is a picture I took at the Atlanta airport. It seemed like I was there forever since my flight didn't depart for 7 or 8 hours. But somehow I was able to pass the time watching hockey (and of course the Avs blew it again) and jumping from terminal to terminal. But eventually I got on the plane and after another 7 or 8 hrs I arrived in Manchester, England. I can't really say that I noticed any HUGE differences then what I anticipated (ex: accents) but I did enjoy the train and rail system. It's so easy to get around just using it and a lot easier/friendlier than American public transportation. The cabs and bus service are also a lot better and the drivers are friendlier as well. Not much happened during my first week just because it was orientation but I did get to learn about the education system, taste some good food, and meet other students from around the world. The hardest thing for me so far has been the time difference and fitting hockey in. Even though I'm in a FAR OFF country, I will not miss hockey. I don't care if its by video stream or radio...I need my hockey. It has been a little hard staying up till 4 or 5 am to listen to it but it's been worth it. Like I said, more updates are coming soon but if I forgot anything or if there are any questions, I'm happy to include them in the blog.
